Field/Service Technician
Responsibilities:
- Primary responsibility will be to perform trouble shooting, electrical / fluid testing, repairs and fluid services of transformers, rectifiers, regulators and high voltage components. This is specific to the Transformer Services Division. Complete incoming, visual inspection for electrical and mechanical defects.
- Troubleshoot, test, maintain, redesign, rebuild, retrofit, and/or repair electrical equipment. Equipment may include but not limited to transformers, switch gear and/or breakers on Customer site(s). Equipment will vary by location but may include but not limited to transformers, low or medium voltage circuit switch gear, and breakers, Protection Relays, MCCs, UPS and Battery systems, Earth Resistivity and Ground Grid Testing, disconnect and load break switches.
- Complete test reports to Company and Customer standards and timelines.
- Demonstrate a continual effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively with other departments to provide a quality and seamless operation.
- Communicate PM, Manager or other designee for effective problem resolution and transfer of pertinent information on jobs in process and complete.
- Maintain strong client relationships, prepare project estimates, expand project work scopes and assist in negotiating extra charges.
- Ability to walk through customers’ sites, inspect problem(s) & report problem(s) to Sales and Project Management.
- Help manage the on-going schedule and travel planning to facilitate timely response to customers.
- Work may require flexible hours, weekends, holidays, and night work. Must be available for out-of-town work.
- Mentor and train Field Techs as directed.
- Work with members of a team to effectively complete work assignment. Receive information from team members and/or leadership regarding customer needs and product requirements and utilize this information to effectively complete jobs.
- Maintain a neat and orderly work area;
Observe all company, local, and federal safety rules, location and company best practices, and company policies and procedures. - Other duties as assigned.
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology or electrical journeyman electrician with minimum 2-3 years of experience in an industrial setting.
- Preferred certifications or designations include CET, ASTT, Journeyperson Electrician, FSR-A/B
- Knowledge of various industry standards such as: CSA, NETA, IEEE, NFPA
- Preferred experience with most of the following or similar: switch gear, transformers, breakers, relay testing, oil testing, performing start-up on switch gear up through 500kV class, etc.
- Must be able to work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures.
- Good theoretical understanding of electricity and a good aptitude for problem solving.
- Effectively communicate verbally and in writing with customers and peers.
- Dependable and responsible with good judgment and organizational skills.
- Good customer service, time management and follow-up skills.
- Work effectively with customers, peers and management to resolve client issues.
- Strong computer skills with working knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office- use of Internet for standards/products/manufacturer research
- For positions that utilize a company vehicle, will be required to have a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
