The Team

Resource Management team leads the regional implementation of Together for Wildlife strategies, fish and wildlife permitting and regulations and species recovery. Lead the development and implementation of legal orders under the Land Act and Forest and Range Practices Act to support resource management, ecosystems, habitat and wildlife objectives. Populations status is assessed through provincial fish and wildlife inventory programs. Use is regularly reviewed to make decisions under the Wildlife Act and other statutes.

Their specific accountabilities include: guide outfitter licences, guide territory certificates, trapline licences and transfers, general wildlife permits and scientific fish collection permits, in addition to several other types of Wildlife Act permits. Providing timely and informed decisions is critical to ensure the long‑term sustainability of fish and wildlife populations in British Columbia for ecological, cultural, economic and recreational benefits.

The regional Engagement Specialist reports to the Director of Resource Management and serves as the primary liaison across ministries, with First Nations and Stakeholders within the region. This role leads engagement initiatives, event planning, and collaborative efforts to advance fish, wildlife, and ecosystem co‑management. The position supports the delivery of joint projects and programs that strengthen resource stewardship and promote reconciliation.

Key responsibilities include:

leading First Nations and stakeholder engagement to foster meaningful relationships and partnerships, coordinating events and collaborative activities that advance wildlife management and ecosystem stewardship, supporting implementation of Together for Wildlife strategies to improve wildlife conservation in the North, driving initiatives focused on Indigenous reconciliation and shared decision‑making and contributing expertise in resource stewardship and human dimensions to guide collaborative projects and programs.

A strong background in resource management, Indigenous relations, and stakeholder engagement is essential for success in this role.

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) in BC with the College of Applied Biologists (CAB). Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
• Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in biological sciences or related field, plus three (3) or more years of related experience as noted below.
• Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.

• Experience assessing and monitoring natural resources in conjunction with First Nations and/or stakeholders.
• Experience managing resource stewardship (fish, wildlife and ecosystems) programs and/or projects collaboratively delivered with First Nations and/or stakeholders.
• Experience building and maintaining relationships with internal and external partners and stakeholders.
• Experience leading programs, projects, or initiatives related to the management, protection, or recovery of species or ecosystems.
• Experience managing complex and sensitive natural resource management issues or projects related to wildlife or wildlife habitat in a team environment.

• Master’s Degree (or higher) in biological sciences or a related field.
• Wildlife management experience, including project development, field work for data collection, data analysis, reporting, conveying management recommendations.
• Experience engaging First Nations on wildlife and/or wildlife habitat management programs or projects.
• Experience proactively engaging First Nations on wildlife work leading to collaborative outcomes or recommendations.
• Experience interpreting and applying natural resource related legislation and policy in BC.
• Experience preparing and submitting professional documents such as briefing notes, information notes, early‑warning notes, minister response letters.
