The GP practice receptionist is responsible for undertaking a wide range of reception duties and providing support to the multidisciplinary team. Duties may include, but are not limitedto, greeting and directing patients, effective use of the appointment system,booking appointments, processing of personal information and assisting patients as required.
Main duties of the jobTo act as a centralpoint of contact for patients, the distribution of information, messages andenquiries for the clinical team, liaising with the multidisciplinary team member and external agencies such as secondary care and community service providers.
The successful candidate must be flexible to cover additional hours as required by the needs of the surgery and be happy to work between 7:45 and 18:30 on a rota basis.

Job responsibilitiesThe core responsibilities of the receptionist are as follows. On occasion, there may bea requirement to carry out tasks not listed below, that are within thereasonable scope of the role.
- Maintain and monitor practice appointment system
- Processpersonal, telephone and e-requests for appointments
- Answer incoming phone calls, dealing with the callers request appropriately
- Signpostpatients to the correct service
- Initiatingcontact with and responding to, requests from patients, team members and external agencies
- Data entryof new and temporary registrations and relevant patient information as requested
- Input dataas necessary onto patients healthcare records
- Directrequests for information to relevant team members i.e., SAR, DVLA forms, insurance/solicitors letters
- Manage all queries as necessary in an efficient manner
- Carry outsystem searches as requested
- Support all clinical staff with general tasks as required
- Photocopydocumentation as required
- Maintain aclean, tidy and effective working area
- Monitor and maintain the reception area and notice boards
In addition to thecore responsibilities, the Receptionist may be requested to;
1.Actionincoming emails and correspondence as necessary
2.Complete opening and closing procedures in accordance with the rota
3.Partake inaudit as directed by the audit lead
4.Support admin team, providing cover during absences
5.Scanpatient related documents and attach scanned documents to patients healthcare record
Person Specification Experience- Experience in a GP practice
- Experience with EMIS
- Clear, polite telephone manner
- Competent in the use of Office and Outlook
- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
