Do you want to make a lasting positive change to the environment? As a Technical author in the UK BAT team you can.

Large Volume Inorganic Chemicals (LVIC) installations are required to use ‘Best Available Techniques’ (BAT) to reduce emissions to air, water and land.

You’ll be responsible for drafting BAT Conclusions, liaising with Technical Working Groups and presenting a final document suitable for publication as a new, UK wide, environmental standard for industry.

Responsibilities

  • Presenting a final document suitable for publication as a new, UK wide, environmental standard for industry.
  • Working with, and writing technical documents.
  • Project management to complete tasks on time.
Qualifications
  • Specialist knowledge and understanding of the LVIC industry.
  • Good understanding of process engineering and environmental issues.
  • Good understanding of environmental legislation and policy in the UK.
  • Ability to critically analyse technical arguments and data.
  • Ability to work with and write technical documents.
  • Good project management skills and a drive to complete.
Experience / Skills Required

At least 5 years working experience and a solid understanding of environmental regulation in the LVIC industry.

  • Collection and technical analysis of complex industrial data.
  • Understanding the implications of BAT Conclusions in permits, on industry and the environment.
  • Verbal and written communication.
  • Building and maintaining relationships.
  • Planning, prioritising and organising tasks and resources.
  • Responding flexibly to challenges and building consensus.

    Ability to work effectively with people from different backgrounds and cultures and encouraging diversity issues in work.

Contract & Working

Up to 2 years from appointment.

Some travel and overnight stays may be required.

We welcome flexible working patterns, including job share.

Application Process

Applications will be blind-assessed using competency questions answered with the STAR method.

Interviews will use MS Teams with four capability-based questions and a presentation.

Reserve list for 6 months; alternative post may be offered.
