EUROPEAN CREDIT CONTROL MANAGER

Location:

Theale Office, Reading
Working arrangement:
Hybrid – 3 days a week in the office

Job Outline

To lead and manage the European credit control function, overseeing day‑to‑day operations, ensuring timely collection of receivables, minimising credit risk, and building strong customer relationships. This role leads a team of credit controllers, ensuring adherence to company policies, accurate reporting, and continuous process improvement. The manager collaborates closely with Heads of Sales to develop proactive credit strategies and solutions that support revenue growth while safeguarding financial health.

Role Accountabilities
Team Management
  • Develop, coach, lead, and motivate a high‑performing credit control team.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and shared success.
  • Conduct monthly 1‑2‑1s with team members to provide constructive feedback, celebrate achievements, and set forward‑looking goals that drive continuous improvement and growth.
  • Work closely with all relevant departments to resolve disputes and align on credit policies.
Internal/External Customer Engagement
  • Develop & maintain strong relationships with key customers, ensuring a professional and solution‑oriented approach to collections.
  • Work closely with all relevant departments to resolve disputes and align on credit policies.
Processes
  • Drive automation and efficiency initiatives to enhance credit control performance.
  • Align processes with the European Sales Administration Manager to ensure clarity of responsibilities and consistency across functions.
  • Align European policies and processes.
  • Lead and implement process improvements within the credit control team.
Compliance & Reporting
  • Prepare and deliver mid‑month and month‑end receivables reports (credit limits, payment terms, overdue debt).
  • Produce ad‑hoc reports to support management accounts, bad debt provisioning, and ledger trends.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, legal requirements, and audit standards.
  • Provide accurate reporting and insights to senior management.
Credit Control
  • Act as the main point of contact for credit insurers and senior finance stakeholders.
  • Maintain strong cash flows through efficient collections and ledger management.
  • Oversee credit applications, credit limit reviews, and portfolio management.
  • Handle problem accounts, receiverships, and liquidations.
  • Manage direct debit collections and release of orders held for finance approval.
  • Liaise regularly with Sales leadership and Area Managers.
Cash Management
  • Daily bank transaction downloads and multi‑currency allocations.
  • Post and allocate direct debit receipts and ensure cash reconciliation.
Experience,

Skills & Qualifications Required
  • Proven experience in credit control management within a multinational environment.
  • Strong knowledge of European credit regulations and practices.
  • Excellent leadership, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work cross‑functionally and positively influence stakeholders.
  • A second language would be an advantage.
  • Line management experience would be an advantage.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organisational skills (planning, scheduling and monitoring).
  • Analytical thinker.
  • Works well within a team.
  • Ability to manage relationships both internally and externally.
  • Strong Excel skills are required (pivot tables and lookups), and previous experience with NAV BC system is preferable but not essential.
  • Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information.
