Bakery Clerk & Customer Service - Bower Place

As a Bakery Clerk at Sunterra Market, you are the friendly face of our bakery department bringing warmth, knowledge, and care to every customer interaction. This is a hands-on, customer-facing role that requires a keen eye for detail, a love of food, and a genuine desire to serve. Whether you’re packaging pastries, assisting with orders, or sharing your favorite bread recommendations, your contributions help bring joy to our guests and support the success of the bakery team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Product Preparation & Merchandising

• Package and label baked goods with accuracy and care.

• Ensure the bakery showcase is full, clean, and visually appealing.

• Rotate products to maintain freshness and minimize waste.

• Assist with the setup and execution of seasonal and promotional displays.

• Stay informed about new products and share information with customers.
Customer Experience

• Provide warm, knowledgeable, and personalized service to every guest.

• Answer questions about ingredients, allergens, and product availability.

• Offer samples and suggest pairings or featured items.

• Handle customer concerns with professionalism and empathy.

• Maintain a clean and inviting service area.
Operational Support

• Receive and stock bakery supplies and ingredients.

• Monitor inventory levels and communicate needs to the Bakery Team Lead.

• Assist with daily cleaning tasks and sanitation procedures.

• Ensure compliance with food safety and workplace safety standards.

• Support bakery production team as needed during peak times.
Team Collaboration

• Work closely with the bakery team to meet daily goals and maintain high standards.

• Communicate effectively with team members and leadership.

• Participate in ongoing training and development opportunities.

• Contribute to a positive, respectful, and inclusive work environment.

Daily Tasks

• Greet and assist customers with enthusiasm and product knowledge.

• Package and label baked goods for retail sale.

• Stock shelves and maintain accurate pricing and signage.

• Monitor product quality and freshness throughout the day.

• Clean and sanitize workstations, equipment, and display areas.

• Assist with basic baking or prep tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

• Experience in retail, food service, or bakery operations.

• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to support and motivate a team.

• Knowledge of baking techniques, ingredients, and food safety best practices.

• Excellent organizational and time management skills.

• Customer-focused mindset with strong communication abilities.

• Familiarity with inventory control and merchandising is an asset.

• WHMIS and Food Safety Certification required (training provided by Sunterra).

Working Conditions

• Standing and walking for extended periods.

• Exposure to temperature variations in baking and prep areas.

• Repetitive lifting of items up to 40 lbs (team lift required for heavier items).

• Use of ovens, mixers, knives, and other bakery preparation tools.

• May require reaching, bending, and climbing ladders or stools.
