Staff Nurse, A&E
Closing date: 14 January 2026
Contract: 12‑month fixed term
We are looking for enthusiastic, dynamic nurses to join our Emergency Department team. The successful candidate will provide high‑quality nursing care to patients and their families within a supportive, preceptorship‑led environment.
Main duties- Work with the team as a named nurse, maintaining accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care programmes.
- Communicate effectively with patients, carers and the multidisciplinary team, placing patients at the centre of care.
- Supervise, support and educate unqualified staff and students.
- Work variable hours and embrace new ways of working, including speaking up about concerns.
- Develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care including discharge planning.
- Safeguard vulnerable adults and children.
- Participate in preceptorship programmes and act as mentor/preceptor to less experienced staff.
- Educate patients and carers on health improvement where required.
- Complete accurate patient documentation.
- Communicate effectively with patients, carers and multidisciplinary team.
- Maintain professional development portfolio and evidence of reflective practice.
- Assist in training and assessment of student nurses and support staff.
- Contribute to research and development programmes.
- Ensure safe, clean ward environment and conduct risk assessments.
- Demonstrate awareness of budgeting and economic use of equipment.
- In the absence of senior staff, undertake clinical/shift management with support.
- Work variable shift patterns (early, late, night, 7 days a week).
- Knowledge of NMC Code, NHS Constitution, and 4
Ward values. - Understanding of clinical effectiveness, audit, and risk management.
- Excellent time‑management, prioritisation, organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to mentor and support students and unregistered staff.
- Technological proficiency and ability to identify and manage risk.
- Determination and resilience in challenging situations.
- Registered Nurse on NMC Sub‑part 1 or 2, with willingness to achieve additional CPD within 18 months.
- Teaching and Assessing Qualification (or equivalent). >
- Previous acute nursing experience within NHS.
- Strong clinical competence and professional awareness.
- Experience mentoring or supporting students.
