Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced Logistics HGV Planner to manage and optimise the movement of HGVs across our transport network. The role focuses on route planning, fleet coordination, capacity forecasting, space optimisation, and performance reporting to ensure efficient, compliant, and cost-effective operations.

This is a fast-paced role suited to someone with strong planning skills, a proactive mindset, and experience working in transport or logistics environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and optimise HGV routes to achieve on‑time, cost‑effective deliveries
  • Coordinate daily transport schedules and liaise with drivers, warehouse teams, and customers
  • Monitor fleet utilisation, vehicle availability, and maintenance requirements
  • Ensure compliance with transport legislation, health & safety standards, and drivers' hours regulations
  • Identify upcoming capacity constraints and implement solutions in advance
  • Manage and resolve operational issues such as delays, breakdowns, or last‑minute changes
  • Maintain accurate transport, capacity, and performance data using WMS and TMS systems
  • Produce reports on KPIs including efficiency, cost per pallet, throughput, and storage utilisation
  • Support warehouse space optimisation through effective layout and slotting strategies
  • Identify cost‑saving opportunities and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Work collaboratively with operations, procurement, transport, and project teams
Skills & Experience Required
  • Proven experience in transport planning, HGV scheduling, or logistics coordination
  • Strong organisational and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities
  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Confident using transport and warehouse management systems (TMS/WMS)
  • Logistics, transport, or supply chain qualification desirable but not essential
  • Valid UK driving licence advantageous but not mandatory
