Employment tenure
The projected start date is May 1, 2026 with an end date of March 31, 2028 (or depending on the candidate's availability or needs). It is expected that the student will work between 22.5 and 37.5 hours per week with the possibility of part-time extension.
Salary
$25.17 to $31.69 per hour - Varies as per the level of education and experience.

About the position
DutiesA Research Assistant is required to work under Soil Carbon (C) Cycling/Agronomy research program at the Swift Current Research and Development Centre. The student will determine the shoot:root ratio, harvest index and yield of of chickpea cultivars and explore new cultivars’ residue C and N inputs to SOC and soil N using 13C- and 15N- isotope labelling approach under field conditions.
Chickpea crop residue decomposition study will be conducted after the labelling study and harvest in the field. In addition, greenhouse gas (GHG) of field trials will be collected and analyzed for measuring C footprint of chickpea cultivars. The successful candidate will conduct the research at AAFC in Swift Current and at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, SK and participate the experiment design, take and analyze sample and write up thesis so on.
The successful candidate will have opportunities to collaborate with researchers with different fields in Plant Breeding, Soil Science, Agronomy, Pulse Pathology and Weed Science.
