This is a Locum Consultant Histopathologist part‑time vacancy to meet the demands of the service.

The successful applicant would be expected to develop a special interest in an area of cancer pathology, including Lead Pathologist responsibilities, and this would be expected to complement those of the existing Consultant Pathologists. Special interest in breast pathology and/or dermatopathology would be desirable. Interests in non‑cancer pathology are also welcomed. Currently all consultants maintain a wide interest in general Histopathology reporting.

duties of the job

The successful applicant will contribute to the provision of a routine comprehensive diagnostic Histopathology Service for the Health Board and will be based at Glan Clwyd Hospital. It is essential that the successful candidates undertake consent and Coroner's post‑mortems on an agreed, equitable rota basis with consultant colleagues. The successful candidate will be expected to take part in audit, internal quality assurance schemes, teaching and other related subjects.

It is expected that reporting of all cancer specimens will conform to Wales Cancer Standards. The histopathology commitment involves the provision of a comprehensive histopathological service to BCUHB. The cytopathology commitment, if pursued, involves the provision of a non‑gynaecological service to BCUHB.

  • Participate in and contribute to Clinicopathological Meetings and teaching including cancer multidisciplinary teams.
  • Perform administrative and managerial duties as required to ensure the smooth running of the Department in all hospitals.
  • Ensure management arrangements comply with WHC (IS…27).
  • Participate in internal and external audits and relevant external quality assurance schemes.

Person Specification Qualifications

Essential

  • General Medical Council (GMC) registration with a licence to practice

Desirable

  • Holder of GMC Specialist Registration
Experience

Essential

  • Broad experience in general Histopathology with special interest in breast pathology.
  • Cytopathology experience would be required if cytopathology interest pursued.
Clinical Governance

Essential

  • Understanding of the Strategic and Operational issues underpinning Clinical Governance, their application in daily practice and how this can be evidenced.
Ability

  • Commitment to team approach and multi‑disciplinary working.
  • Counselling and communication skills.
