About The Role
:
As a DVM and Designated Registrant for the Practice, the Acting Designated Registrant demonstrates an exemplary standard of medicine with patients while concurrently providing medical leadership to the Practice. This DVM will be largely responsible for clinical work with approximately 5-10% of the time focused on Designated Registrant responsibilities. As a senior member of the practice management team, the Acting Designated Registrant combines clinical expertise, a dedication to veterinary code of ethics and regulatory standards, solution-driven expertise, emotional intelligence and utilizes a servant leadership mindset to promote excellence in veterinary medicine.
Acting Designated Registrant Responsibilities:
Work in partnership with the National Medical Director, create and sustain an environment conducive to high quality and competent veterinary care. Involves ensuring practice guidelines are adhered to, high standards of care are consistently delivered and oversight of controlled drug logging and storage.Ensure Practice equipment and facilities are in working order, are properly maintained and issues or equipment requests are escalated to the Regional Manager.Assist to interview and train DVMs and RVTs (as applicable) at the PracticeAssist in resolving problems, concerns and conflicts within the team.Propose solutions either independently or through working with the Vet Care Practice Care Centre team to resolve issues.Veterinary Responsibilities:
Approaching, greeting, handling, and treating animals with kindness, compassion and patience. Involves contributing to an environment in which animals feel safe and secureBuilding positive client relationships through remaining calm in all circumstances, displaying genuine care and compassion towards clients and their pets, being respectful in all interactions and providing exceptional customer serviceExamining, diagnosing and treating diseases or abnormal conditions in individual animalsPrescribing and administering animal medications and vaccinesTaking cell and tissue samples and performing diagnostic testAdvocating, prescribing and administering preventive care for the wellness needs of petsTreating sick or injured animals by prescribing medication, setting bones, dressing wounds, or performing surgery on animalsMaintaining relevant, comprehensive medical records with the support of the Practice’s systemsVaccinating animals to prevent and treat diseasesResponsible for overall operation of animal hospital, adhering to the billing practices of the Practice, as may be amended or updated from time to timeCommitting to practicing a high standard of medicine, while upholding the CodePerforming routine, emergency, and post-mortem examinationsNotifying the Practice promptly (no more than 5 business days) if you receive any notifications of complaint from the College and provide the Practice a copy of any complaint and copies of all further correspondence with the College regarding any such complaintEffectively communicating diagnosis and treatment plan to the Practice team and the clientProviding a range of veterinary services including obstetrics, dentistry, and euthanasiaCommunicating ideas, expressing opinions, and responding to team members in appropriate and respectful ways while possibly supervising animal health technologists and animal care workersMay conduct veterinary research related to areas such as animal nutrition, health care products development and disease prevention and controlMay enforce government regulations in disease control and food production including animal or animal-based food inspectionRequirements:
4-5 year university degree in veterinary medicine or equivalent (as well as any required pre-veterinary studies for the university program, if applicable)Completion of national certification examinations or equivalent are requiredProvincial license to practice in British Columbia or ability to obtain3+ years of experience as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, including a minimum of 1 year in a leadership and/or supervisory role such as practice management, regulatory/policy, finance or quality managementProficiency in internal medicine, diagnostics, and preventive care. General surgery and general dentistry are preferred, but not required.Experience developing and implementing standards, procedures and structures to support high quality care and best in class experiences.Proven leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
