Primary FocusThe primary role of the strategic sourcing specialist is to develop sourcing plans by coordinating and drafting specifications in partnership with engineers to determine quality criteria, design criteria, and all appropriate documentation to enable potential vendors to quote. The specialist creates and maintains strong relationships with suppliers, forecasts pricing, and negotiates MSAs or contracts.
Roles & Responsibilities- In conjunction with the engineering department, source, identify, and develop new worldwide vendors and arrange for new product samples based on urgency, product type, location, ability, cost, and quality.
- Identify single‑source raw material risks and develop contingency or alternate plans to ensure there are no gaps in the supply chain.
- Lead negotiations and manage worldwide and/or regional/local contracts.
- Independently conduct standard data analyses and transactions, e.g., analyzing internal client requirements, reviewing purchase requisitions for goods to ensure compliance with purchasing procedures and user requirements, preparing routine bids and proposals, creating supporting spreadsheets, conducting more complex product and price comparisons, assisting in bid openings, obtaining telephone quotes, etc.
- Act as a key interface with Silent‑Aire Engineering and Procurement and Production to ensure alignment of strategies, standard processes, and commitments.
- Provide solutions to improve company spending and outsourcing.
- Drive strong cross‑cultural relationships and influence a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Assist in developing, supporting, and driving 3‑5‑year global strategies focused on identifying and contracting with suppliers that meet key business needs and category‑management goals.
- Analyze data to determine where it makes sense to buy direct from raw material sources versus distributors.
- Meet with vendors regularly via travel and video conference to evaluate proposals and share market‑trend analysis.
- Maintain and update the supplier database and find alternative suppliers if existing ones are unable to meet obligations.
- Process validation & verification; ensure the vendor’s product meets requirements and specifications before shipment using appropriate quality documentation.
- Applicable post‑secondary education (e.g., Purchasing/Supply Chain Management,
B.Comm., Engineering, Business Administration). - 5+ years of related purchasing experience.
- Fluency in both English and Mandarin Chinese.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, industrial equipment, and concepts such as Design for Manufacturing/Assembly for engineering roles.
- A combination of manufacturing and engineering acumen is an asset.
- Polished negotiation skills.
- A thorough understanding of sourcing methodologies.
- Meeting requirements for entry into PMAC (CPP) accreditation is desirable.
- Strong data analytical and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
- Balance of strategic and operational capacities, including global sourcing, supplier management, commodity risk management, etc.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
