360°kids is a vitally important community agency serving all of York Region. We have been a leader in the delivery of innovative support services for more than 35 years as we work to improve the lives of unhoused and marginalized youth and families in York Region. At 360°kids, we provide a unique continuum of care approach with programs and services that are essential to the health and well-being of youth.

These proven strategies help to keep youth safe by providing stable housing options with 360° wraparound supports.

The 360°kids’ youth residence is a voluntary program that offers a combination of housing and support for youth, primarily 16-19 years of age, who are facing a housing crisis. Family reintegration is our primary focus; however, where that is not possible, youth are taught the valuable life skills necessary to move on to independent living.

The Youth Worker will provide client-centred, hands-on support for all youth participating in the 360°kids SHINE Programs.

Schedule:
Overnight Fri and Sat 11pm to 7 am

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides ongoing life skills support, mentoring and provides access to direct services to address issues youth presently face (E.g. employment, family issues, life skills, shelter, hot meals, counselling, recreational activities, and clothing).
  • Medication administration, monitoring, storage, and disposal (as required).
  • Provides informal one on one counselling to the youth in program.
  • Advocates on youth’s behalf and acts as a positive role model for youth.
  • In the event of a crisis or critical incident, manages the situation to ensure the safety of all and immediately reports to appropriate level.
  • Oversees meal preparation and cleaning, performs some housework, light maintenance, and repair work, or arranges for additional service.
  • Monitors health and safety of home, including ensuring maintenance and cleanliness of shared spaces.
  • Enforces house rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensures program is accessible to youth at all times.
  • Responds to crisis situations.
  • Create and maintain a clean and welcoming environment for youth in care.
  • Daily documentation such as case note documentation, report writing and various other administrative duties as needed.
  • Assist youth to access various community programs regarding school, health, housing, employment, etc.
  • Maintain positive relationships and interact with various community partners including school boards, police services, child welfare agencies, neighbors, etc. in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Positively contribute to 360°kids as an organization.
  • Other duties as required.

Skills and Education Required:

  • Post-Secondary degree/diploma in a Child/youth-related field (e.g. Child and Youth, Social Service Worker, Social Worker, Psychology, Sociology) or the equivalent combination of education and experience working with youth.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience working with “at-risk” or street-involved youth.
  • Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), Suicide Prevention training an asset.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Current Broad Record Check (criminal background check).
  • Car and a valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract, and $2M liability insurance required.
  • Demonstrated extensive knowledge of working with youth, including understanding of the regulatory environment (e.g. CFSA).
  • Demonstrated client-focused counselling skills and role modelling.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills and have the ability to be adaptable with a flexible approach taking into consideration the unique qualities of each client.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills that promote positive team building, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
  • Will possess a broad knowledge of community resources and the ability to strongly advocate for clients and professional referrals.
  • Leadership skills, including motivation, delegation, coaching/mentoring and empowerment and the ability to motivate staff.
  • Demonstrated extensive knowledge of working with youth, including understanding of the regulatory environment (e.g. CFSA and QSF).
