Mechanical Project Engineer – Pinchin, Canada
Locations:
Kelowna, Victoria, Richmond, BC or Edmonton, AB (preferred)
Salary Range: $90,000 - $130,000
Pinchin is seeking a Project Engineer to join our Mechanical Engineering team in either our Kelowna, Victoria, Richmond, or Edmonton (preferred) office. As Project Engineer, you will assist the District Energy Group in assessing and designing renewable-based district energy solutions for municipalities, institutions, utilities, and private developers. In addition, you will assist in reviewing work being carried out on site for the Blatchford District Energy System, an exciting 5th Generation District Energy System now being developed in Edmonton.
You will also be expected to help out the rest of the mechanical engineering team.
Our services include more than just engineering design — we help clients understand the financial, regulatory, and operational aspects of their projects. You will also be responsible for helping to grow the local Office with a potential for a leadership role in the future for the right candidate.
Responsibilities- Planning and design of ambient temperature district energy sharing systems which use heat pumps and renewable energy like geoexchange and wastewater heat recovery to provide heating and cooling to communities.
- Building mechanical HVAC and Plumbing designs for Pinchin’s broad portfolio of clients in British Columbia and across Canada.
- Low carbon electrification projects which use heat pumps to recover waste heat and offset carbon-based heating.
- Energy Audits, Specialist Reports and GHG reduction studies in existing buildings in Western Canada with assistance from our energy modelers
- Assisting other groups in Pinchin with HVAC and plumbing advice as required
- Support projects related to new builds and retrofits in multiple sectors including residential, commercial and institutional.
- Conduct feasibility studies for renewable energy and district energy projects
- Design, review, and inspect heat recovery systems for commercial, institutional and residential facilities, including central energy plants
- Assist in preparing detailed designs for heat pump based hydronic systems
- Monitor operations and report on the performance of existing heat pump and district energy systems
- Prepare proposals, cost estimates and reports. Win public bids.
- Foster and maintain positive, long term client relationships
- University degree in Mechanical Engineering and P.Eng. designation. Alternatively, a person with expert level proven work experience will also be considered. LEED or CEM designations considered an asset.
- 6+ years of consulting engineering experience.
- Demonstrated ability to gain new and grow existing relationships with clients.
- Must have experience in district energy, geothermal (geoexchange), and/or chiller plant design.
- Experience in building HVAC design, particularly retrofit projects and hydronic systems for heating and cooling in residential or commercial buildings
- Experience conducting energy audits or evaluating energy efficiency measures for building mechanical systems.
- Good research and technical writing skills
- Excellent English verbal communication, organizational and prioritizing skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and a basic knowledge of AutoCAD, IES, load calculation software.
- A valid driver’s license
- Ability to travel to various client sites either locally or to adjacent provinces
- Must have ability to work remotely and independently. Entrepreneur mindset is an asset.
- 5+ years of experience in residential design and energy modeling
- Played key roles in Education (K-12/Post-Secondary) and/or Healthcare sectors within the last 5 years with client references available upon request.
