ContextThe Tunneling Specialist will be ensuring that client requirements are fulfilled by the design builder, responsible for assuring all tunneling work is properly planned, designed, and coordinated with all affected parties. The role involves sequencing and constructing in accordance with project requirements and industry best practices.
Missions / Main Duties- Review routing studies, designs, guidelines, geotechnical data, and conduct risk and gap analysis.
- Coordinate tunnel design reviews, review tunneling schedules, facilitate interface sessions, prepare scopes of work and estimates for design changes, and produce technical memos and studies for design alternatives.
- Provide technical field support, evaluate RFI submissions and change requests, coordinate design issues during construction, provide cost estimates for technical support services, update guidelines and standards, and coordinate updates for best‑practice documents.
- Ensure the design‑builder properly plans, schedules, and implements the sequence to reflect project requirements and milestones.
- Document field support of construction activities and changes, ensuring all field changes are engineered, approved, and implemented.
- Assure the accurate completion of as‑built documents.
- Ensure the design‑builder addresses all stakeholder requirements and interface activities for each phase of the tunneling program.
- Prepare a list of requirements based on contract documents and stakeholder criteria and review them against design‑builder submittals.
- Review all design‑builder submittals to assure design safety conformance, fire life safety, and fit‑for‑purpose of the tunnel design.
- Engineering or related degree.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience post‑graduation.
- Experience working on large and complex tunneling projects in a tunneling specialist role.
- Strong understanding of large project construction programs with multiple interface and stakeholder requirements, including utilities, station construction, roadway and traffic, and adjacent structures.
