Manufacturing Engineer, Quality Engineering
The Tool Room Engineer will be based in Saudi Arabia. This position reports to the Production Manager and is responsible for ensuring that all tools and maintenance activities are carried out efficiently, on schedule, and in accordance with quality and safety standards. The engineer supervises, trains and motivates production staff, ensures effective communication of work instructions, goals and performance expectations, and maintains accurate records of production output, shift performance and incidents.
GeneralTask Management
- Tool Design & Development:
Design and develop tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and dies based on production and process requirements using CAD/CAM software. - Maintenance & Repair:
Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance of tools, molds and dies to ensure operational efficiency and longevity.- Schedule periodic inspections for all tools and dies.
- Clean tools after each use to remove debris, oil or residue.
- Check for wear, cracks or deformation before reusing.
- Lubricate moving parts (e.g., sliders, ejector pins) regularly.
- Maintain proper storage to prevent rust or damage.
- Use protective coatings or anti-rust oils where applicable.
- Track tool life cycles and usage hours.
- Implement sensors or counters on high-use tools to detect wear patterns.
- Analyze tool performance and cutting parameters for early warning signs.
- Replace tool inserts, cutting edges or components before they reach critical wear limits.
- Conduct root cause analysis to determine failure reasons.
- Repair or regrind worn or damaged tools immediately.
- Document all repairs and replacements for future reference.
- Verify tool accuracy through calibration and trial runs before reuse.
- Documentation:
Proper records ensure traceability and informed decision making.- Maintain tool maintenance logs (date, type of service, technician, observations).
- Keep tool drawings and change records updated.
- Track tool inventory and issue‑return details.
- Maintain separate records for life cycle analysis (number of shots, machining hours, etc.).
- Process Optimization:
Suggest improvements in tool design or material selection to enhance productivity and reduce costs. - Collaboration:
Work closely with production, quality and design teams to ensure tools meet specification and performance standards. - Inventory Control:
Monitor tool room inventory, maintain spare parts and ensure availability of essential components. - Continuous Improvement:
Review tool failure trends periodically and implement design or process improvements to extend tool life. - Incorporate lean practices such as 5S and TPM (Total Productive Maintenance).
- Encourage operator feedback on tool performance and handling.
- Compliance & Safety:
Ensure adherence to company safety policies and quality management systems (ISO, TS, etc.).
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Tool & Die Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 5–7 years of experience in a manufacturing or tool room environment.
- Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., AutoCAD, Solid Works, Master
CAM). - Knowledge of machining operations (CNC, EDM, milling, grinding, etc.).
- Strong understanding of tooling materials, heat treatment and tolerances.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing and 5S practices.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Good communication and team collaboration.
- Attention to detail and a quality mindset.
- Time management and multitasking skills.
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends or overtime when required.
- Knowledge of lean techniques may be advantageous.
- Team player with strong organizational skills.
