The Apprentice will learn the necessary skills and acquire the required knowledge to progress to the role of Test Technician. This will be achieved through on‑the‑job training, learning from Test Technicians, in‑house training, and completion of a Level 3 Apprenticeship standard (Engineering Fitter).

• Develop a good understanding of Drawings, Test Specifications, Circuit Diagrams, and Test Procedures.
• Learn about component/Printed Circuit Board assembly and soldering techniques.
• Learn about product assembly.
• Undertake IPC 610 and IPC 620 training and achieve certification.
• Learn about industry standards and regulations.
• Learn about Lean Techniques, 5S, etc.
• Understand the different items of test equipment available and how they are used.
• Learn how to test products in line with test documentation, including obtaining and recording required test results.
• Develop an understanding of fault‑finding techniques and learn how to diagnose board assemblies and products that have failed test.
• Learn to access the system for manufacturing instructions, procedures, and forms, and raise NCRIs for non‑conforming product.
• Complete the Level 3 Apprenticeship (Engineering Fitter) through a combination of on‑the‑job training and attendance at an appropriate training centre or college.

• Minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above in appropriate subjects, including Mathematics, English, and at least one with a Science or Engineering bias.
• Basic computing skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (Word and Excel).
• Ability to work in a small team and take initiative when required.
• Willingness to communicate with staff at all levels.
• Willingness to learn and develop new skills through training and acquisition of knowledge.
