Support Services Team Leader

Location:

Rotherham, Full Time, Permanent, 40 hours per week. Days:
Tuesday to Saturday 09:00 – 17:30.

As the Laboratory Team Leader in our Support Services section, you will lead a small, committed team ensuring all client samples are analysed accurately, on time, and in line with rigorous quality standards. You will act as the key link between our clients, laboratory staff, and the Laboratory Manager to keep projects on track, optimise resources, and maintain smooth communication.

• Efficiently organise and manage your team to ensure all samples are analysed to a high standard.
• Continuously review resources (staff, equipment, consumables) and flag any shortfalls to the Laboratory Manager.
• Ensure all quality and safety procedures are strictly followed and that documentation is completed accurately and in full.
• Confirm client requirements are fully understood before testing begins, checking that all samples are suitable for analysis.
• Communicate proactively with clients regarding sample queries, turnaround times, and any unforeseen delays.
• Manage day-to-day client communications, providing clear and professional responses to technical and analytical queries.
• Support, mentor, and oversee staff training and development, keeping the Laboratory Manager informed of progress and performance.

• A degree in a science discipline (or equivalent) including Science, English, and Mathematics.
• Proven experience in a laboratory environment, ideally within food science, chemistry, or microbiology, with a sound theoretical and practical understanding of microbiology methods and procedures.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), with excellent data handling and reporting skills.
• A solid understanding of laboratory quality systems, ensuring analytical data meets ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 17025:2017 standards.
• Strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills, with the ability to manage, motivate, and develop a small team effectively.
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining quality at or above internal and industry expectations.
