Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Hygiene Manager to lead hygiene and sanitation operations within a food manufacturing environment. Reporting to the Technical Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of food safety, cleanliness, and compliance, while driving continuous improvement across hygiene practices and people performance.
This role is critical in safeguarding product integrity, maintaining a safe working environment, and ensuring compliance with food safety, quality, health & safety, and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and manage all hygiene activities to prevent physical, microbiological, allergenic, and chemical contamination.
* Ensure a safe working environment and full compliance with Health & Safety standards.
* Implement and maintain Food Safety & Quality standards and associated procedures.
* Plan and deliver daily and deep cleaning schedules in line with production requirements, maximising downtime efficiency.
* Manage hygiene staffing, including rotas, holidays, agency labour, and return-to-work processes, ensuring costs remain within budget.
* Lead, train, and develop hygiene teams through effective communication, performance management, and engagement.
* Ensure appropriate use of chemicals, PPE, equipment, and safe systems of work.
* Maintain accurate hygiene documentation, SOPs, risk assessments, and records for audit and due diligence purposes.
* Manage third-party hygiene and pest control contractors, ensuring site compliance.
* Act as site Environmental Champion, supporting waste reduction initiatives and accurate reporting.
* Collaborate effectively with production, engineering, and technical teams.
Skills and Experience
* Proven experience in a hygiene management role within food manufacturing.
* Strong knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards.
* Demonstrated people management and leadership capability.
* Strong organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
* A proactive, continuous improvement mindset
