Web Developer – Ensembl Project (EMBL-EBI)
Join the Ensembl Web Team to develop next‑generation genomic resources at beta.ensembl.org
. The role requires modern web technologies and collaboration across scientific data teams.
- Co‑design, implement, and maintain web interfaces using Typescript, React, and Rust to visualise complex genomic data.
- Write high‑quality, tested, and maintainable code, adhering to coding standards and best practices.
- Participate in agile ceremonies and coordinate with project stakeholders to deliver integrated solutions.
- Provide incident response support, conducting root‑cause analyses for technical issues.
- Document code, SOPS, and technical designs; contribute to knowledge sharing across the team.
- BSc (or higher) in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Professional experience developing web applications with modern front‑end frameworks.
- Experience with source control, linting, containerisation, CI/CD, automated testing, and package management.
- Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript/Type Script, and React (or similar).
- Linux operating system experience.
- Excellent spoken and written English (C1 minimum).
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work across interdisciplinary teams.
- Experience with Rust and Web Assembly (WASM).
- Familiarity with data visualisation frameworks (D3.js, three.js, WebGL).
- Agile methodology experience.
- Experience in genomics or large data sets.
- Python knowledge and database experience (MySQL, Mongo
DB).
