We are looking for a software engineer with a strong record in software development and an interest in developing services for one of the most internationally used data resources in biological science – Uni Prot. Our team is dynamic and interdisciplinary, comprising enthusiastic software engineers and bioinformaticians working closely with biologists and scientists. The Uni Prot resource serves a large and diverse research community in genomics, proteins and proteomics.

As part of your daily work, you will design and develop software and APIs for the Uni Prot data services and website, providing protein information to the scientific community and computational biologists. You will also work on the design, maintenance, and monitoring of the website cloud infrastructure. Scalability will be a key focus of your clear, concise, well‑tested, and documented code.

You will apply analytic engines and technical approaches to distributed processing of big data and must work toward tight deadlines.

• A degree in Computer Science or a related discipline
• At least 3 years of professional experience in software development, particularly in web back‑end development
• Experience in web cloud infrastructure
• Experience with Agile processes
• Good communication skills
• Experience in Java and/or Python development
• Experience in developing RESTful services
• Experience in developing applications using Spring Boot
• Experience in developing web infrastructure (Solr, Kubernetes)
• Experience with key‑value stores
• Experience with git and basic Unix commands

• Experience with large‑data processing technologies (e.g., Apache Spark)
