Estates Trade Person Mechanical
Job Summary
We are looking for a Mechanical Assistant to join the hard working Estate team at Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust. As a Mechanical Assistant you will assist in the provision of a high quality, efficient, responsive, flexible & effective estates service to Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust.
ResponsibilitiesAs a Mechanical Assistant you work as part of a multi‑disciplined team within Estates reporting to the Estates Officer (Operational). You will assist in the maintenance and repair of installations, plant and equipment to keep unplanned downtime to a minimum, comply with the Health & Safety at work Act and other legislation, maximise efficiency and customer satisfaction. You will manage your own allocated workload, work unsupervised in the course of maintenance duties, respond to out of hour requests in conjunction with other staff involved in the Estates on‑call service, flush water outlets, support senior maintenance staff in routine water testing and sampling activities, carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), follow PPM Schedules, complete necessary report sheets and test certificates and update Plant Room Log Books.
Work is supervised and results/outcomes are assessed at agreed intervals.
- Recognised and registered EITB, City & Guilds, modern apprenticeship, NVQ level 3 or approved equivalent training in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or Plumbing.
- Demonstrable in‑depth knowledge and experience within the required technical disciplines (e.g. BMS, decontamination etc).
- Knowledge of operation / maintenance / fault finding / repair / diagnostics, testing and installation work associated with complex electrical and electronic installations and equipment in an economic, efficient and safe manner.
- Knowledge of the application of:
Health and Safety legislation, ACOPs, guidance and rules, NHS technical standards (e.g. Health Technical Memoranda) and Trust policies, basic life support and emergency aid, and readiness to train where required.
- Commitment to customer care.
- Ability to be part of an out of hours on call rota.
- Specialist knowledge gained from working in a health care engineering environment or prepared to work towards gaining.
- IT literacy or willingness to train to ECDL level 2 standard (use of Microsoft Office suite), and readiness to undertake training on and use of the Trust's computer based asset and condition‑based maintenance management system.

Salary: £24,937 to £26,598 a year per annum pro rata if part time
