Job Description
Seeking an experienced General Superintendent to oversee multiple concrete construction projects throughout San Diego County, with additional oversight of select projects in Orange County.
This position requires someone who can independently run projects in the field while also managing the scheduling, coordination, documentation, and administrative responsibilities that come with overseeing multiple jobs. This is not strictly a field position. The right candidate must be comfortable spending time in the office completing paperwork, reviewing plans, coordinating schedules, and managing project documentation in addition to visiting and managing jobsites.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage multiple concrete projects throughout San Diego County and select Orange County projects.
- Independently manage jobsites and ensure projects stay on schedule.
- Coordinate manpower, crews, equipment, materials, and project sequencing across multiple sites.
- Develop, maintain, and adjust project schedules as needed.
- Monitor project progress and proactively address delays, manpower issues, scheduling conflicts, and other field concerns.
- Read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, specifications, and project documents.
- Provide direction and oversight to superintendents, foremen, and field crews.
- Coordinate with project managers, general contractors, subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and other project stakeholders.
- Maintain strong knowledge of concrete construction methods, sequencing, and field operations.
- Ensure work is being completed according to plans, specifications, quality standards, and project schedules.
- Manage multiple priorities and projects at the same time without losing track of deadlines or details.
- Complete required paperwork, reports, scheduling updates, documentation, and other administrative responsibilities in the office.
- Be flexible with schedule and location depending on project needs.
- Travel between San Diego and Orange County jobsites as necessary.
Required Experience & Skills
- Strong experience in commercial concrete construction.
- Previous experience overseeing multiple construction projects simultaneously.
- Ability to independently run and troubleshoot jobsites.
- Strong understanding of construction scheduling and project sequencing.
- Ability to read and understand construction plans and specifications.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Comfortable managing both field operations and office/administrative responsibilities.
- Ability to communicate effectively with field crews, project management, clients, and general contractors.
- Must be flexible and able to adjust priorities as project conditions change.
- Must be comfortable holding field teams accountable for schedule, quality, safety, and productivity.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is someone who has spent significant time in concrete construction and understands how to manage the big picture across multiple projects. They should be able to walk onto a jobsite, understand what is happening, identify problems, direct the field team, and keep the project moving.
At the same time, this person cannot be someone who only wants to work in the field. The General Superintendent will also be expected to handle scheduling, planning, paperwork, reporting, and office responsibilities necessary to successfully manage multiple projects.
This role is best suited for someone who is highly organized, adaptable, proactive, and comfortable taking ownership of projects without needing constant direction.
