About the Role

A premier building services consultancy is looking for a seasoned Senior Mechanical Engineer specializing in HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems to join their dynamic team in Sandton, Gauteng . This role involves leading the design, specification, and project management of complex HVAC systems for a wide range of commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of HVAC principles, energy efficiency strategies, and relevant building codes.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of HVAC systems, including air conditioning, ventilation, heating, and refrigeration.
• Prepare detailed HVAC designs, schematics, calculations, and specifications.
• Select appropriate HVAC equipment and components, ensuring compliance with performance and efficiency requirements.
• Manage HVAC engineering aspects of projects from conceptual design through to construction and commissioning.
• Conduct energy modeling and analysis to optimize system performance and reduce operational costs.
• Ensure compliance with relevant building codes, standards (e.g., SANS), and environmental regulations.
• Collaborate effectively with architects, electrical engineers, structural engineers, and project managers.
• Perform site inspections during construction to verify installation and address technical queries.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior mechanical engineers and CAD technicians.
• Stay abreast of the latest HVAC technologies and best practices.

Requirements

• BEng or BSc in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university.
• Professional registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) is essential.
• A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in HVAC design and project management.
• In-depth knowledge of HVAC system design, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer.
• Proficiency in HVAC design software (e.g., Revit MEP, AutoCAD, IES VE, eQUEST).
• Strong understanding of energy efficiency standards and sustainable building design principles.
• Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) integration is a plus.
• Excellent project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to lead teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
