Building Operator 1

Saskatoon Public Schools is the largest school division in Saskatchewan, serving nearly 29,000 students with the support of more than 3,300 dedicated professional and support staff. Building Operator 1
Saskatoon Public Schools invites applications from individuals interested in the Building Operator 1 position. Under the direction of the Manager of Operations, the Building Operator 1 ensures that the building, including the heating and cooling plant, mechanical and electrical systems, are operated and maintained to provide a safe, clean, learning and working environment that is kept in a comfortable and presentable condition.

The Building Operator 1 acts as a lead hand in organizing the daily and seasonal work of caretaking staff assigned to the building.

Applicants for the Building Operator 1 position must possess a grade 12 or equivalent, Fireman’s Certificate as assigned by the Saskatchewan Department of Labour or other certificates as may be required by management along with the ability to complete Level 1 and 2 Occupational Health and Safety training within 6 months.

Applicants must have the ability to utilize email, process maintenance requisitions, supply orders, staffing assignments and the energy management system (e.g. schedule, alter set points, and diagnose heating, cooling and ventilation problems). The successful applicant will have the ability to operate and maintain various types of mechanical and electrical systems, with diagnostic skills in the above areas, for example, fire protection alarm and fire sprinkler systems as they apply and the ability to carry out preventative maintenance programs.

Candidates will have strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills combined with effective problem solving, decision making, organization, and planning skills.
