Essential duties and responsibilities
Lead the comprehensive management of field breeding trials, encompassing seed and land preparation, planting, plot maintenance, harvest, pesticide and fertilizer applications, and trial evaluations.
Maintain and service field and seed processing equipment.
Support inventory and organization of station facilities
Supervise temporary and seasonal labor, ensuring safe operations and adherence to company guidelines.
Participate in plant production in greenhouse and growth chambers, including planting, managing growing conditions, plant crossing, and harvest.
Interact and collaborate with other LCRC employees and associated companies, including farmers, seed and product development specialists, plant pathologists, molecular biologists, and others.
Contribute to overall station tasks, emphasizing efficiency in protocols and activity organization.
Education & experience required
Strong background in field and seed processing equipment operation and maintenance.
Knowledge of agronomy principles and practices, and previous experience in field breeding trials are advantageous.
Experience with seed production and the seed industry is desired.
Candidates should possess good interpersonal skills and effective oral and written communication skills.
Comfortable operating computing, Office 365, and agricultural-related technology such as GPS guidance.
Ability to work independently and/or with others, and the willingness to participate in all LCRC breeding program duties.
Possess a valid driver’s license and have, or be able to obtain, a driver’s license with “G” endorsement or higher.
The ability to spend extended periods of time traveling domestically in peak periods, and to travel internationally (have, or qualify for, a valid passport).
Ability to work extended or variable hours under variable environmental and ergonomic conditions associated with planting, harvesting, and plot management.
Salary commensurate with experience.
