Job Description & How to Apply Below

Overview

We are seeking to recruit an experienced Clinical Specialist Nurse (CSN) to work within our Acute Hospital (Mental Health) Liaison Service (AHLS) at Scarborough General Hospital. The role is fast paced, unique & challenging. We are looking for someone who is highly motivated, innovative & autonomous who demonstrates an enthusiasm for systemic working & continuous service development.

Responsibilities

The CSN will work closely with our existing Team Manager & core members of our highly-skilled team. You will be working at the interface between physical medicine & psychiatry, bringing your knowledge & expertise to complex discussions & decision-making together with Acute colleagues.

In this role, you will offer clinical leadership support to colleagues, participate in service improvement, and co-ordinate the assessment, treatment & management of people accessing the service. The CSN will offer advice & consultation regarding the management of the client group to colleagues within the team & other agencies, as necessary. AHLS accept referrals from SGH via A&E and inpatient wards, providing a 24/7 comprehensive service to patients, clinicians & carers.

People are referred with a wide range of needs, including self-harm, functional and organic mental illness and often complex social needs. A special interest in alcohol and substance misuse is desirable. For some people this may be their first contact with mental health services, making their interaction with us a critical part of their recovery journey.

You will be working within a skilled, resilient and professional team and often as an autonomous Clinical Specialist within the fast paced General Hospital environment. You will promote a safe and effective service throughout the Acute Trust; this will be through training and giving expert advice and support to nursing and medical teams. You will maintain a visible, professional presence where patients, carers and staff can turn for timely assistance, advice and support.

You will ensure quality standards are consistently maintained, role‑modeling a responsive, recovery-orientated and formulation‑driven approach, which values shared decision making.

Required Skills and Competencies

As CSN, you will need excellent communication & leadership skills to ensure effective joint working. You will have the confidence & skills to support your Team to respond to a variety of referrals. You will support colleagues to think holistically in relation to physical & mental health needs of patients. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound experience of risk assessment & safety planning and will be committed to co-creation.
