Machine Learning Engineer (Physical Modeling)

Responsibilities- Rapidly prototype AI‑centric vision pipeline algorithms for novel imaging system concepts
- Represent imaging sensors with accurate and efficient physical models at various abstraction levels
- Collaborate with computer vision and image sensor experts in a multi‑disciplinary R&D environment to co‑develop software and hardware for system‑level innovation
- Coordinate developments within a multi‑cultural work environment that spans engineering sites from Japan, Europe, and North America across the Sony Group organization
- MSc or higher in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
- Experience designing deep neural networks for vision applications
- Proficiency in Python and the PyTorch library
- Confident communication skills and proficiency in English
- Curiosity to actively learn and ask questions
- Experience in physical modeling, such as modeling of optics, semiconductor devices, or propagation of light
- Knowledge of image sensor and camera operation
- Knowledge of computational photography methods
- Experience in building sustainable, reusable, well‑documented research code
- Track record of innovation through novel products, patents, or publications
The position is with Sony Advanced Visual Sensing (Sony AVS), an R&D center of Sony Semiconductor Solutions based in Schlieren, Switzerland. We develop novel computer vision algorithms, vision sensors, and sensing systems based on our world‑leading sensing expertise, including event‑based cameras, CMOS cameras, and next‑generation image sensing devices.
