A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, enthusiastic and experienced nurse with a passion for Palliative and End of Life care to join our Acute Macmillan Specialist Palliative and End of Life Care Team. Weekend working would be required on a rota basis. Hours are 22.5 per week.
The team are based at Scunthorpe General Hospital. We provide specialist palliative care advice and support to patients, loved ones, and health care professionals on our in-patient wards. The team works closely with the Consultant in Palliative Medicine, End of Life Care Team, and Community Macmillan Specialist Palliative Care Team.
As a palliative care nurse specialist you will require excellent communication skills, effective leadership skills and advanced decision making skills.
Main duties of the jobThe post holder will provide specialist advice and a supportive role for those affected by cancer and other life‑threatening illnesses during the palliative stages. This includes direct support to patients, relatives and carers, and providing specialist advice to other professionals.
Responsibilities include:
- Complex symptom management
- Advanced care planning discussions
- Education, research and training to enhance standards of palliative care
The post holder will develop and maintain a good working relationship with all staff and liaise closely with clinicians, nursing staff, administrative support and patient administration staff at all levels throughout the Trust and other affiliated services. The service works 7 days a week and the successful candidate would be expected to work weekends on a rota basis.
Person Specification Education and Qualifications- Degree or equivalent in nursing studies
- Evidence of post registration development at Masters level (level
7) qualification in palliative care or oncology - Teaching/facilitation qualification or experience
- Significant post registration clinical experience in relation to palliative care and/or oncology
- Experience of caseload management and leadership
- Previous experience of working within a specialist role
- Experience of audit
