Overview
A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, enthusiastic and experienced nurse with a passion for Palliative and End of Life care to join our Acute Macmillan Specialist Palliative and End of Life Care Team. Weekend working would be required on a rota basis.
The team are based at Scunthorpe General Hospital and provide highly specialist palliative care advice and support to patients, their loved ones, and health care professionals on our in-patient wards. The team works closely with the Consultant in Palliative Medicine, End of Life Care Team and Community based Macmillan Specialist Palliative Care Team as well as collaborating with all teams involved in the patients' care.
The post holder will provide specialist advice and a supportive role for those affected by cancer and other life threatening illnesses during the palliative stages of the disease process. This process involves direct support to the patient, relatives and carers as well as providing this specialist advice to other professionals. This will include, but is not exhaustive of, complex symptom management and advanced care planning discussions.
The role also involves education, research and training to enhance standards of palliative care.
The post holder will be required to develop and maintain a good work relationship with all staff and liaise closely with clinicians, nursing staff, administrative support and patient administration staff at all levels throughout the Trust and other affiliated services. This service is now working 7 days a week and the successful candidate would be expected to work weekends on a rota basis.
As a palliative care nurse specialist you will require excellent communication skills, effective leadership skills and advanced decision making skills.
Responsibilities- Provide specialist palliative care advice and support to patients, their loved ones, and healthcare professionals in in‑patient wards.
- Deliver direct support to patients, relatives and carers during the palliative stages of disease.
- Offer specialist advice to other professionals, including complex symptom management and advanced care planning discussions.
- Contribute to the party's education, research and training initiatives to enhance palliative care standards.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with all staff, including clinicians, nursing staff, administrative and patient administration teams.
- Work weekends on a rota basis as part of a 7‑day service.
