Overview

A leading packaging manufacturer in the Scunthorpe area is looking for a Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join their team on a Panama shift pattern.

Mechanical Maintenance Technician

Salary

£19.50 per hour + Company bonus (Circa £46,000 per annum)

The key responsibilities of the Mechanical Maintenance Technician role
  • Carry out installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems, assemblies, and components.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical issues on equipment, including basic hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Conduct basic fault analysis and identify early signs of mechanical failure.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical documentation, and industry standards.
  • Use and maintain relevant measurement instruments and mechanical tools.
  • Participate in scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Support the implementation of World Class Manufacturing (WCM) practices and other operational systems.
  • Inspect and verify the accuracy and quality of finished parts, tools, or sub-assemblies.
  • Collaborate with other departments and maintenance teams to ensure smooth operations.
  • Assist operators in routine machinery upkeep and minor maintenance tasks.
  • Support training efforts and cooperate with external personnel such as agency workers and contractors.
  • Consistently wear and maintain appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Adhere to all Health & Safety procedures, regulations, and policies.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 50001, BRC, and other relevant standards adopted by the company.
  • Dress in accordance with applicable Health & Safety requirements.
  • Perform additional tasks of a similar nature as reasonably assigned and in line with the role.
The key requirements
  • Proven experience in a similar maintenance engineering role within fast-paced manufacturing environments (e.g., Automotive, Food, FMCG).
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems such as hydraulics, gearboxes, bearings, etc.
  • Ability to read technical drawings.
  • Willingness to work Panama shifts.
  • NVQ Level 3 qualification or time-served apprenticeship.
