We’re looking for a Service Information Data Officer to join our team and play a vital role in ensuring customers have accurate and timely travel information. You’ll manage the verification, interpretation, and input of service and stop data into SYMCA’s Service Information System (SIS) and regional systems, supporting the production of customer-facing products across both paper and digital channels. Your work will help customers make informed travel decisions and support South Yorkshire’s wider economic and sustainability objectives.

About the roleIn this role, you’ll be responsible for maintaining the integrity and accuracy of service information data that underpins everything from bus stop timetables to digital displays and online journey planning tools. You’ll work closely with operators, internal teams, and external partners to ensure data is processed efficiently and meets national standards.
Key responsibilities include:- Verify and interpret service information supplied by public transport operators to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Manage data entry into the Service Information System (SIS) and regional systems to support electronic and paper-based products.
- Liaise with internal teams to enable production and distribution of service information and provide change notifications for frontline staff.
- Coordinate stop movement processes, ensuring legal compliance and accurate representation on GIS systems.
- Support maintenance of data integrity within SIS and contribute to system development for enhanced reliability.
- Prepare reports on data flows and stop movements to monitor performance and compliance with standards.
- Export service and stop data to external bodies and meet national deadlines.
We’re seeking a detail-oriented and analytical individual with strong organisational skills and a passion for accuracy. You’ll need to be comfortable working with complex data, interpreting timetables and maps, and collaborating across teams to deliver high-quality information. Essential- High level of numeracy and literacy skills (A Level standard or equivalent).
- Good understanding of public transport timetables and map-based information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Previous experience in data management and service delivery environments.
- Strong analytical, numeric, and administrative skills.
- Ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines under pressure.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Professional sector knowledge and understanding of public transport operations.
- Experience in traffic or operational areas of public transport provision.
- Experience of direct customer contact.
