Operational Technology Engineer

INSIDE IR35 CONTRACT ROLE £800 - £850 Per Day

We are seeking a highly skilled Operational Technology (OT) Engineer with deep expertise in Power On and OT security. This role combines hands‑on engineering with strategic governance and architectural oversight, supporting the operation, optimisation, and lifecycle management of OT systems. The ideal candidate will balance technical execution with strategic planning, while mentoring and upskilling other engineers in a 2–5 year transformation programme.

• Operate, configure, and optimise Power On OT systems on a day‑to‑day basis.
• Work closely with vendors to ensure delivery of OT services while maintaining high standards of performance and security.
• Configure and manage SCADA points, and ensure changes adhere to governance standards.
• Implement OT security practices across Power On and equivalent EMS / DMS platforms.

• Act as a Design Authority, providing architectural guidance, enforcing OT policies, standards, and technical best practices.
• Develop and maintain a Strategic Asset Management Plan for OT applications, including lifecycle planning and technical architecture oversight.
• Support vendor and supplier governance, ensuring compliance with operational and security standards.

• Lead and support the 2–5 year transformation programme, upskilling technical teams and preparing for succession planning of principal / chief engineers.
• Train and mentor RTS Technical Engineers through hands‑on guidance and structured training programmes.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to balance strategic OT planning with operational execution.

• Proven Power On OT platform expertise (experience on equivalent EMS / DMS platforms is not sufficient).
• Hands‑on experience operating, configuring, and optimising OT systems.
• Strong knowledge of OT security and governance practices.
• Ability to act as a Design Authority, combining technical architecture with governance responsibilities.
• Demonstrable experience mentoring and training OT engineers.
• Balanced skillset for strategic planning and hands‑on engineering (approx. 50/50 split).

• Experience with SCADA, EMS, or DMS platforms.
• Exposure to vendor management and contract oversight.
• Track record in operational excellence and succession planning within OT teams.

• Assess existing OT applications, operational processes, and security posture.
• Begin hands‑on operation and optimisation of Power On systems.
• Develop initial OT asset management plan covering lifecycle and technical architecture.
• Identify training and upskilling opportunities for RTS Technical Engineers.
• Establish governance processes for SCADA / OT changes and vendor management.
