Sustainability Policy Officer (Synergy Programme)

Apply to support the design and implementation of sustainability initiatives across the Synergy Programme, partnering with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and related government departments.

• Assist in developing the Synergy Programme’s sustainability approach and strategies.
• Collaborate with Government Departments to understand and embed sustainability ambitions into policy, processes and programmes.
• Collect, analyze and present sustainability data to inform policy and performance metrics.
• Translate sustainability blueprints into actionable policies and interventions within ERP, BPS and the Future Shared Service Organisation (FSSO).
• Support the definition and implementation of key performance indicators anchored in robust evidence.
• Monitor the environmental performance of the shared services supplier base.
• Co‑ordinate sustainability impact information for business case development and benefit tracking.
• Develop sustainability documentation such as tender documents and specifications.
• Co‑create a Sustainability Knowledge Hub to capture and disseminate best practice.
• Actively promote the sustainability agenda across the cross‑government community.

Experience

• Working in a dedicated environmental sustainability team and integrating sustainability into wider organisational practices.
• Driving sustainability outcomes through initiative and effective organisation of projects.
• Supporting the development and implementation of a sustainability strategy.
• Enabling behavioural and cultural change for sustainability within an organisation.
• Engaging stakeholders across diverse perspectives and levels.
• Applying Government Digital Service principles to sustainable technology.
• Using analytical insight to shape sustainability decisions.

Qualifications/Accreditations

Must be or be willing to become a member (at least affiliate level) of The Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals (ISEP).
