Clinical Research Fellow – Neurology/Translational Neuroscience
Join the University of Sheffield as a Clinical Research Fellow in the Motor Neuron Disease (MND) / Neurodegeneration clinical research programme. This role is predominantly patient focused and will help deliver cutting‑edge gene therapy and experimental medicine trials. Good clinical practice skills are essential.

Pay and working hoursPay range: £52,656 to £73,992 per annum. Full‑time, 12‑month contract.
OverviewThis post will be part of the NIHR Sheffield Biomedical Research Centre Junior Academy and offers the opportunity to develop an independent research project within the MND group. You will work with a multidisciplinary team, conduct experimental and clinical studies, and gain experience in translational neuroscience research.
Main duties and responsibilities- Design, develop and refine translational research experiments to obtain reliable data.
- Assist in experimental medicine studies and other clinical trials.
- Collect, document and analyse biosamples and clinical data.
- Prepare manuscripts and presentations for national and international conferences.
- Write reports, interim reports and other supporting documentation for the research group.
- Support other researchers in the laboratory and keep up to date with current literature.
- Participate in one weekly clinic session per week.
- Attend StR Neurology training days.
- Plan research activities, set milestones and coordinate with team members.
- Supervise junior research staff as required.
- Monitor and evaluate results, adapting plans as new developments arise.
- Carry out additional duties as required for the post.
Essential qualifications and experience:
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification, GMC full registration at time of appointment and current licence to practice.
- Effective written and verbal communication, including report writing and teaching experience.
- Experience supervising undergraduate medical students or research projects.
- Track record of research productivity: publications and presentations.
- Interest and experience in neurology, ideally at SHO/SPR grade, with potential to progress.
Desirable:
- MRCP (UK) or equivalent.
- Previous research in neurodegeneration or gene therapy.
- Evidence of innovation in teaching and academic potential.
