About the Role
A vacancy has arisen for a Biomedical Scientist to join our friendly and hardworking team in the Clinical Chemistry department at the Northern General Hospital, part of the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Pathology Network (SYBP) hosted by Sheffield Teaching Hospitals (STH).
Key Responsibilities- Perform tests efficiently within the assigned time and in accordance with established protocols to the required standards.
- Assist in maintaining high scientific and technical standards.
- Maintain complex pieces of laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and reliable results are produced for patients.
- Participate in out‑of‑hours rotation covering the 24/7 routine Biochemistry service.
- Take accountability for own professional actions and work for long periods of time without direct supervision.
- Assist in monitoring quality standards and perform audits as directed in line with service needs.
- Monitor stock levels and assist senior members of staff with ordering and organising stock as required.
- Participate in regular CPD activities to maintain up‑to‑date knowledge and experience.
- IBMS accredited degree in Biomedical Sciences, ideally with relevant experience in Clinical Chemistry.
- Current registration with the HCPC.
- Band 6 candidates must have completed the IBMS specialist portfolio in Clinical Biochemistry.
- Ability to participate in out‑of‑hours services (24/7) once deemed competent in the relevant areas.
- Banding starts at Band 5 unless applicants meet the necessary threshold of skills and experience to start on Band 6.
- Applicants who do not meet the UK Government’s Skilled Worker visa eligibility requirements or salary thresholds will not be eligible for sponsorship from the Trust.
