DXA Technologist (Part‑time 30hrs)

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – Metabolic Bone Unit, Northern General Hospital

Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Metabolic Bone Centre team located at Northern General Hospital. The centre provides a high‑quality diagnostic service, delivering densitometry and Vertebral Fracture Assessment imaging to approximately 13,500 patients per year and runs a Fracture Risk Assessment Service (FRAS) alongside specialist metabolic bone clinics.

Main Duties
  • Perform Bone Density (DEXA) scans and other related procedures according to departmental protocols.
  • Request and interpret procedure results, adhering to quality assurance standards.
  • Work closely with the scan team to ensure efficient service delivery.
  • Maintain accurate records and support the department’s audit and quality improvement activities.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Science or health‑related degree or equivalent academic achievement.
  • Registration with an appropriate Professional Body.
  • ROS IR(ME)
    R certification for operators/referrers or equivalent training in radiation protection.
  • Royal Osteoporosis Society Certificate of Competency in Bone Densitometry.
Experience
  • Motivation to work in a healthcare environment.
  • Experience working in a metabolic bone centre.
  • Knowledge of current health and safety regulations.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Flexibility and ability to prioritise.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Awareness of confidentiality.
  • Committed to professional and personal development.
