Automation Engineer – Open Shift
Rate: £463 a day (Inside IR35)
Location:
Sheffield – 3 days a week onsite
Duration:
Initially 12 months

Role OverviewThe Automation Engineer will be responsible for automating repeatable tasks such as cluster provisioning, scaling, and patching within the bank's Open Shift environments. This role ensures operational efficiency, consistency, and compliance through robust automation frameworks and tools.
Key Responsibilities- Design and implement automation scripts and workflows for Open Shift cluster provisioning, scaling, and patching.
- Collaborate with infrastructure and platform teams to identify automation opportunities and standardize processes.
- Develop Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) templates using tools like Ansible, Terraform, or similar.
- Integrate automation solutions with CI/CD pipelines for seamless deployment and maintenance.
- Monitor automation jobs and troubleshoot failures to ensure reliability and performance.
- Maintain documentation for automation processes and provide training to relevant teams.
- Ensure compliance with the bank's security, governance, and regulatory standards in all automation activities.
- Continuously improve automation frameworks by adopting emerging technologies and best practices.
- Strong experience in automation engineering for infrastructure and container platforms.
- Hands‑on experience with Open Shift and Kubernetes environments.
- Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Bash) and configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet).
- Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform, Cloud Formation).
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and Dev Ops practices.
- Understanding of Linux systems, networking, and security principles.
- Excellent problem‑solving and communication skills.
