We’re looking for an experienced Mechanical Technician to join our Estates Team at Sheffield’s Northern General Hospital. Estates plays a crucial role in keeping our hospitals and services running – from essential power, heating, plumbing and mechanical systems, to the inside and outside of our buildings and grounds. Our staff maintain safe, well‑maintained environments for patients, visitors and staff.

This is a hands‑on role where you’ll be responsible for the day‑to‑day management, administration and workload of operational and reactive engineering staff within Estates. You’ll also manage and supervise external engineering contractors to ensure works are completed on time and to agreed standards.

You’ll need to be highly experienced within your trade, and have the management, people and communication skills needed to lead an effective team.

• Day‑to‑day management and administration of operational and reactive engineering staff.
• Manage and supervise external engineering contractors to ensure works completed on time and to agreed standards.
• Carry out the full range of maintenance duties specific to core trade.
• Conduct non‑routine, planned, corrective and breakdown maintenance tasks.
• Develop task lists and carry out regular audits.
• Attend and advise Trust‑wide Steering Groups.
• Undertake Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and testing of Mechanical systems.
• Record and analyse results, produce condition and non‑compliance reports.
• Witness testing of new systems, plant and equipment; provide training to Estates staff.
• Be available for on‑call and out‑of‑hours cover with a 30‑minute response within site.

• Highly experienced within Mechanical trade.
• Management, people and communication skills to lead an effective team.
• Authorised Person (AP) status training desirable.
• City and Guilds NVQ or similar qualifications encouraged.
