Our client, a reputable accountancy practice based in Telford, is seeking an Assistant Accountant to join their friendly team on an initial 12 month FTC. This role offers the opportunity to work with a diverse range of limited companies and sole traders, handling accounts preparation and tax compliance. As an Assistant Accountant, your role will be integral to the smooth operation of our client's accountancy practice. You will be responsible for a wide range of tasks from manual double entry bookkeeping to drafting financial statements for various business entities. Your excellent communication skills will be put to use as you liaise with clients and HMRC to resolve queries and ensure compliance.

Your ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously will be key in this fast‑paced role.

• Perform manual double entry bookkeeping
• Conduct bank reconciliations
• Prepare working papers to trial balance level, including pre‑payments, accruals and depreciation
• Communicate with clients to resolve accounting/bookkeeping issues
• Complete VAT returns and submit tax returns
• Draft financial statements for various business entities
• Communicate with HMRC online to set up PAYE schemes and VAT registrations
• Resolve queries with HMRC both by telephone and online

The ideal candidate for the Assistant Accountant role brings strong experience from an accountancy practice, particularly in accounts preparation and tax compliance. Your proficiency in accounting software such as Xero or Quick Books will be essential in this role. Your exceptional attention to detail and analytical skills will enable you to handle complex financial data accurately. Your excellent communication and interpersonal skills will help you build effective relationships with clients.

Lastly, your strong organisational and time management abilities will ensure that you can handle multiple projects simultaneously.
