Do you want to make a lasting positive change to the environment? As a Technical Author in the UK BAT team you can.

Large Volume Inorganic Chemicals (LVIC) installations are required to use ‘Best Available Techniques’ (BAT) to reduce emissions to air, water and land. The UK BAT Author leads the definition of BAT within the UK and ensures that environmental standards protect public and environmental health.

Responsibilities

  • Draft BAT Conclusions and prepare technical documents for publication as UK-wide environmental standards.
  • Liaise with Technical Working Groups and present final documents to stakeholders.
  • Maintain a transparent, collaborative process using data and evidence to safeguard current environmental protection levels.
  • Support and train staff in incident management and inclusive practices.
  • Travel and overnight stays may be required occasionally.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience in the LVIC industry or similar environmental regulation roles.
  • Specialist knowledge of the large volume inorganic chemicals sector.
  • Strong understanding of process engineering, environmental issues and UK/EU legislation, particularly the IED and Environmental Permitting Regulations.
  • Ability to critically analyse technical arguments and data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience producing technical documents.
  • Project management skills and a drive to complete deliverables on time.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships across diverse backgrounds.
