Associate (Infrastructure Planning)
WSP invites applications for an Associate role within the Infrastructure Planning Team. The opportunity is focused on supporting the planning and consenting stages of major infrastructure projects across the UK & Ireland.
OverviewWSP is an award‑winning consultancy that employs the largest number of chartered town planners in the UK. The Infrastructure Planning Team works with a diverse portfolio of clients in the energy, renewables, nuclear, net zero, water, rail and aviation sectors. The team delivers the full consenting lifecycle from early feasibility to construction.
Responsibilities- Lead or support aspects of town planning or consenting input on major infrastructure projects (e.g., DCOs, DNSs, TWAOs).
- Provide technical advice to clients and manage their consenting requirements, demonstrating awareness of client expectations.
- Coordinate preparation and submission of consent applications under the Town and Country Planning Acts, the Planning Act 2008 or other regimes.
- Support negotiations with statutory bodies and stakeholders on behalf of clients.
- Engage with multidisciplinary teams, providing technical oversight.
- Build and maintain positive relationships within project and discipline teams.
- Proactively develop own knowledge and skills to build internal knowledge base.
- Apply project finance knowledge within a consultancy environment.
- Line manage / mentor colleagues in working project delivery roles.
- Degree level qualification in town planning (or equivalent).
- Member of the RTPI.
- Experience with in multi‑disciplinary teams securing consent and approvals for major or nationally significant projects via the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, Planning Act 2008 and Transport and Works Act Order.
- Familiarity with the Planning (Wales) Act 2015, Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act, or the Electricity Act is desirable.
- Solid understanding of project finances and project management experience, ideally within a consultancy environment.
