An exciting and unique short-term opportunity has arisen for a highly Specialist Nurse to join our Colorectal team at the Community Diagnostic Centre, Hollinswood House. This is a fixed-term role covering maternity leave, offering the chance to make a real difference in patient care while developing your own skills in a fast-paced, supportive environment. The post holder will:

  • Provide a specialist nursing service to patients on the 62-day suspected colorectal cancer pathway, supporting timely diagnosis and treatment in line with national standards.
  • Act as an autonomous practitioner, proactively managing a caseload of patients, providing expert advice, and advocating across care settings and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Play a key role in supporting new ways of working and ensuring the patient journey is as smooth and effective as possible.

We are looking for an experienced Nurse, confident in higher-level practice, who is motivated to hit the ground running and seize this short-term but career-enhancing opportunity.

Main duties of the job
  • Work as an autonomous practitioner assessing potentially highly complex patients, planning, implementing and reviewing care within the out-patient setting.
  • Managing the urgent cancer pathway nurse-led clinics including the organisation of investigations and interventions and results as required.
  • To be an independent practitioner supporting nurse-led clinics as part of the 62-day patient pathway
  • To liaise with other teams and dependents to ensure that patient progresses through the pathway as per the Urgent Cancer Pathway Operating Procedure.
  • Work within the NMC code.
  • To ensure that all local and national HR policies, procedures and guidelines are adhered to.

Person specification Qualifications
  • Sufficient post registration experience to prepare for this post
  • 1st Level Nursing Degree (working towards)
  • Evidence of own academic education / continuing CPD
  • RGN
  • Working towards specialty related MSc
  • History taking and physical examination course
Knowledge, Behaviours and Experience
  • Experience in a multi-professional setting
  • Experience of liaising with Primary Healthcare Providers
  • Evidence of audit involvement
  • Experience of running Nurse-led clinics
  • Knowledge of statistics/report writing
  • Ability to produce patient information and educational material
Skills
  • Ability to conduct own projects and follow through.
  • Advanced Communication skills qualification (CAT accredited) or working towards
