RThe School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) provides a vibrant and nurturing environment for staff and students to carry out inter-disciplinary research in key areas such as Computational Materials Science, Characterisation Materials Science, Defence Composite Materials, Functional Composite Materials, Energy, Nanomaterials, Low Dimensional Materials, Biomaterials Materials, Biological Materials, Bioinspired Materials and Sustainable Materials.
We are looking for a Research Associate to work on an R&D project. The role will focus on synthesis of nano-sized catalytic materials for water splitting, which are prepared using laser irradiation methods. The candidate is required to have a strong background in electrochemistry and capable of hands-on skills in operating a series of electrochemical techniques and preferably electron microscopes. He/she should be able to prepare the membrane electrodes and assemble PEM electrolyzer.

* Key Responsibilities:
*** Participate in the conduct of research project with research team members to ensure completion of deliverables.
* Lead the group members for materials/consumables purchase, lab health/safety and housekeeping.
* Programme: work on the project to PEM electrodes for electrocatalysis.
* Hands-on skills in operating a series of electrochemical techniques and preferably electron microscopes.
* Configure:
Assemable catalysis electrolyzer for hydrogen production.
* Collaborate with internal and external stakeholder on CHI (Center of Hydrogen Innovation).
* Mentoring: FYP students and exchange students.
* Assist in grant writing:
Tier 1&2.
* Maintenance of lab or equipment or supplies that include procurement and liaison with suppliers.
* Assist or produce high quality reports and documents that consolidate research findings.

* Job Requirements:
*** Master’s degree in Materials science and Electrochemistry.
* Minimum 3 years of relevant experiences in electrochemistry / technical hands-on experience in XRD, SEM, XPS and TEM.
* Familiarity with SOP of Lab environment.
* Good written and oral communication skills.
* Interpersonal skills such as passion, ability to work independently and self-direction with effective communication.
