We are looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to join our team! As a Design Engineer you will be part of our project refinement team, responsible for a portfolio of work. You’ll perform site visits across SSEN’s South Distribution Network, liaising with stakeholders to ensure schemes are fully compliant and feasible.
You will ensure that all network alterations driven by our CAPEX and OPEX Investment can be constructed safely, cost effectively, and in line with SSEN’s Policies and Procedures. This role is integral to SSE’s Net Zero ambitions.
Responsibilities- Produce deliverables for network alterations, refurbishments, and wayleave terminations from LV cables to 33kV network.
- Liaise with customers, land agents, local authorities, and SSE colleagues to achieve fit‑for‑purpose design, including site visits.
- Identify archaeology, ecological, environmental concerns and other land designations before works start.
- Produce design deliverables (drawings, documents, access package, and PCI’s) ready for handover to construction teams, using SSEN’s Design Standards.
- Act as Principal Designer, ensuring all schemes handed to delivery are CDM compliant and health and safety risks are mitigated.
- Knowledge and experience in designing/construction of new cable routes, overhead lines, network refurbishment, plant replacement and alterations on LV to 33kV networks.
- Excellent organisational skills; able to work quickly, accurately and independently under pressure, meeting key deadlines while maintaining compliance with SSEN’s standards.
- Understanding of CDM regulations.
- Ability to build working relationships and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Advantageous (training can be provided):
Electrical/Electronic qualification, IOSH/NEBOSH certification, knowledge of land designations and consents, and experience with NRSWA code of practice.
Regular travel is required and we can only accept applications from candidates that hold a current driving licence.
