Blue Eye Designs is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse with surgical expertise to act as Deputy Ward Manager within the Surgical Centre Inpatient. The role reports to the Ward Manager and is responsible for ensuring high standards of patient care, staff development and ward service improvement.

• Lead and support the nursing team, ensuring competence, education and high quality care for all patients.
• Act as clinical role model, supervising junior staff, providing complex clinical teaching and mentorship.
• Collaborate with the Ward Manager to achieve organisational goals, service development and efficient resource utilisation.
• Maintain clinical, professional and cleanliness standards throughout the ward, acting as direct responsibility in the absence of the Ward Manager.
• Ensure effective internal and external communication regarding patient care, resources and best practice.

• Current Part 1 National Nursing Care registration and evidence of CPD.
• Band 5 nursing band experience and proven leadership of ward or departmental change management.
• Strong knowledge of national health policy, nursing best practice and complex clinical teaching.
• Demonstrated ability to provide complex, sensitive and contentious information, motivating staff and engaging patients.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and NHS digital systems.

• Management and leadership qualification or course.
• Mentorship or teaching qualification.
• Line management experience and line management of staff within a surgical setting.

Band 6 – £38,682 to £46,580 a year. Permanent, full‑time, South Tyneside District Hospital, Harton Lane, South Shields, NE34 0PL
