Senior Industrial Engineer - Plant Layout & Material Flow

Our client, a significant player in the industrial manufacturing sector located in Klerksdorp , is seeking a highly skilled Senior Industrial Engineer to lead initiatives in plant layout and material flow optimization. This critical role demands a strategic thinker capable of redesigning and enhancing our client's production facilities to maximize efficiency, safety, and throughput. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in facility planning, simulation, and the implementation of advanced material handling systems.

You will work collaboratively with engineering, operations, and management teams to develop innovative layouts that support current production needs and future growth. • Lead the design and re-design of plant layouts and facility configurations to optimize material flow and production efficiency.
• Develop and utilize simulation models (e.g., discrete event simulation) to analyze existing and proposed layouts, identifying potential issues and improvement opportunities.
• Evaluate and select appropriate material handling systems, equipment, and technologies.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, maintenance, and safety, to ensure layout designs meet all requirements.
• Conduct detailed analyses of current material flow paths, identifying bottlenecks, excess inventory, and non-value-added steps.
• Develop project plans, timelines, and budgets for facility layout and material flow improvement projects.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, ergonomic principles, and environmental standards in all layout designs.
• Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, including drawings, reports, and presentations for senior management.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technical staff involved in layout projects.
• Stay abreast of industry best practices and emerging technologies in plant layout and material handling.

• Master's degree in Industrial Engineering or a related field.
• A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in industrial engineering, with a specialized focus on plant layout and material flow.
• Demonstrated expertise in facility planning, material handling systems, and logistics.
• Proficiency in simulation software (e.g., Arena, Any Logic) and CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD).
• Strong understanding of lean manufacturing principles and their application to facility design.
• Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
• Proven ability to lead complex projects and manage stakeholders effectively.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
• Experience with in the manufacturing or heavy industry sectors is highly preferred.
• Must reside in or be willing to relocate to the Klerksdorp area.
