Main duties of the jobThis appointment is for a Senior Clinical Fellow in Acute Oncology, based at Southampton General Hospital. You will join the Cancer Care Group (Haematology, Oncology and Supportive Care) and will participate in the urgent management of patients with haematological and oncological conditions admitted via the acute oncology unit.
The post is available for 12 months in the first instance. MRCP parts 1 and 2 are an essential requirement for this role.
You will spend the majority of your time assessing new admissions, training the nurse practitioners and providing oncology outreach to the wider hospital. There will be opportunities for you to develop other skills outside the acute oncology unit.

You will work alongside other junior clinical fellows, Foundation Year doctors, Foundation Fellowship doctors, Internal Medicine Trainees, Higher Specialist Trainees and Specialty Doctors in haematology and oncology within a supportive, approachable team structure including ward nurses, advanced clinical practitioners, clinical nurse specialists and the wider subspecialty medical teams.
Qualifications and training- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- GMC registration with a licence to practise
- MRCP Part 1
- MRCP PACES
- Appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
- Internal Medicine experience for at least 12 months, OR
- Clinical Haematology experience for at least 6 months OR
- Oncology experience for at least 6 months
- 6 months experience of working as a doctor in the NHS
- Publications and presentations relating to haematology and/or oncology
- Participation in service improvement projects
- Evidence and ability to work effectively in multi‑professional teams
