About the Role
We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a respected and growing MEP consultancy in Southampton.
This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of mechanical building services projects, contributing to sustainable, technically robust solutions across healthcare, education, commercial, and research sectors.
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team, gaining exposure to varied projects while receiving mentorship and support for career progression toward chartership.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver mechanical design solutions for HVAC, ventilation, heating, cooling, and domestic water systems
Produce calculations, specifications, technical reports, and design drawings using Hevacomp, IES, Revit, AutoCAD, and other software
Coordinate with electrical, sustainability, and BIM teams to ensure fully integrated MEP designs
Support sustainable and low-carbon strategies across mechanical systems
Attend client meetings, design reviews, and technical discussions
Conduct site visits and surveys to collect technical data and validate designs
Ensure compliance with UK building regulations, CIBSE guidance, and client requirements
Mentor junior engineers and support project delivery in conjunction with senior engineers
Candidate Profile
Degree or HND in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering (BEng, MEng, or equivalent)
2–5 years’ experience in mechanical design within a building services consultancy
Proficient with mechanical design software:
Hevacomp, IES, Revit, AutoCAD
Strong understanding of HVAC systems, plantroom layouts, pipework, ductwork, and energy efficiency principles
Knowledgeable in UK building regulations and CIBSE standards
Excellent communication, organisation, and teamwork skills
Proactive, detail-oriented, and committed to professional development
Ambitious and motivated to work toward chartership (supported by the consultancy)
