Role Overview

We are seeking a qualified Occupational Therapist to provide short‑term cover within our Reablement Team at Southampton City Council. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high‑quality, person‑centred occupational therapy services to adults with care and support needs, supporting their independence and wellbeing in the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake occupational therapy assessments, care planning, and reviews to promote personal independence and daily living skills.
  • Advise, teach, and support individuals and carers in overcoming disability and maximising independence.
  • Recommend and provide standard and specialist equipment and advise on adaptations to clients’ homes.
  • Liaise with colleagues in health, social care, and partner agencies to ensure coordinated, multi‑disciplinary support.
  • Supervise and support Occupational Therapy Assistants and students as required.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with statutory requirements, professional standards, and Council policies.
  • Commit to safeguarding adults and uphold the Council’s Equality Policy.
Essential Requirements
  • Diploma or BSc in Occupational Therapy (or equivalent recognised by WFOT).
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Experience in a health or social care community setting.
  • 3 years Social Services Experience (or equivalent).
  • Ability to manage a demanding and unpredictable caseload, prioritising effectively.
  • Strong communication, assessment and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to travel within Southampton.
